need an opinion (7)
ok guys so as you know my project is about learning diabilities and steps on how to get a 5o4 plan for kids with learning diasbilities to help them get through school with the same ease and comfort as everyone else. I was wondering if I should include like a little medical background? Would that be beneficial? Would you guys even be interested in all that? I was going to focus on common learning disabilties for this project but part of delaing with a learning disability is the treatment for it. I thought maybe I could discuss how a student would even know if they have a learning diability like the tetsing and steps to figure that out. Once the student is aware of their learning disability how they would go about working and dealing with it, so this would include like the inside scoop of what a person with a learning disability would go through. The very many and annoying meetings with doctors and faculty members. Meeting with their general pediactric physican, their psychiatrist, in some cases their therapist, there's a lot to it and that's only form the medical standpoint. There are also many meetings with guidance, the teachers, the nurse has to get involved sometimes faculty members in higher positions then just your guidance counselor or teacher like the prinicpal and/or the safety/discplinary coordinator. Students with these diabilites are not only affected by their medical condition but their medications can affect them too causing nasty side effects and even bad mood swings so its important for the faculty to know even the saefty/disciplanry coordinator beacuse the student as well as the rest of the student body can be affected. Then I would go into deatil about the types of medication, type, dosage, how it works and helps the student. This is only if you guys are intrested in knowing and learning about what really goes on with treatment wise. Please comment and let me know if this is something you would like to see, and any suggestions on things you would like to see

Back in my second blog, I wrote about the production of the products being made. Price range is a major issue right now. Of course, I would be elated if people were willing to pay lots of money. The money could be used for many activities and field trips for these women. Realistically speaking, a lot of people have been saying they would pay up to $20.00 for these hats and scarves. I know I could check prices from other websites, but I thought of a better idea. I could price these hats and scarves a set price and give the option to donate money to Josephine's Place (the place I was talking about in the first blog.) This would open a tremendous opportunity. It'll be like a double whammy on helping these women and it's super simple setting it up. What do you guys think?
I also haven't forgotten about the pictures. I said I would post them up and I shall. The funnest part of the project is being able to call it my own. how our campus sees students with learning disabilities
This post may be simialr to my last one in how it talks about how students deal, work with, and treat others with disabilities except this time it's about the very kids we go to school with. Being on a campus like UCVTS there is defnitely certain "guidelines" that students should meet. We are expected to be these complete geniuses almsot no room for error. We are seen as kids who are academically advanced and gifted and the stress is on to meet this. Not only are the schools on campus in competition with each other but students within the same school, even within the same grade and friend group are in competion with each other. All this pressure to meet the status qu, imagine being someone who has a difficulty meeting this expected status qu and not even because of their academics but because of how judgmental and unaccepting students can be? It's pretty tough
My sophomore year, it was the end of the school day and everyone is piling onto the buses. On my bus there was a young man who looked different from everyone else. It wasnt becasue he wasnt the dominate race like everyone else or because he had a weird style but because he was disabled. He was immediately a target. He would sit alone just staring out the window listening to his music, and he wasnt even upset about it, he still kept his head and spirits high up. A girl on the bus was asking for others for help wiht her math homework. She literally asked anyone and everyone. People tried to help and explain the problem to her, but that didnt work and she was beginning to give up. The young disabled man from uc tech attempted to help her. He had heard her explain the problem multiple times and he had it all figured out, you know what she did? She just ignored him, turned the other way, and acted as if she saw and heard nothing. I heard her make a couple of witty remarks under her breath. "Oh, he's from uc tech, he's dumb" and "He's special ed there's no way he would be able to help, let alone understand". So what happens? We've arrived into town and we're now approaching the different bus stops and it's his turn to get off and as he walks by her he hands her a piece of paper. Right on that paper was the math problem, the correct answer, and all the work and steps written out. (As I'm writing this I'm cheering hell yeah you, go you! in my head). The girl and everyone on the bus was blown away, they assumed because he looked different, went to uc tech, and was disabled that he was dumb but look who proved them wrong? He did!
People are so unaware and educated about people with diabilities, the types of disbailites, and how it affects someone. His face was structured diferently from eveyrone else and he was considered really awkward but that didnt make him wrong or uneducated... just different. Of course this happening to anyone is hard to deal with, I feel so bad for that boy for being misjudged but on our campus its even worse. Everyone here is a brainiac, just saying you go to uc tech instead of the carreer oreinted schools makes someone "dumb", imagine the things this boy had to deal with attenidng our campus. You think kids on this campus would be accepting and understanding because we're known as the smart and gifted kids back at old our schools and in our home towns and honestly we should be! As the gifted and extremly smart kids of union county we should defnitely know by now not to judge a book by its cover and to be the ones who are respectful, kind, and accepting.

Sure, prezi is all cool and zoomy and stuff, but powerpoint is really straightforward...
But considering what I'm presenting, it might make more sense to do a prezi...

5th reflection
Now that I have all these ideas, it's time I put them to good use. I have all of my information collected. I want to start going around and interviewing students. I would walk around the halls or maybe even handout a worksheet/survey to the gym teachers so they can give them out at the end of the class. The survey will have questions of/about how students usally percieve others who have learning disabilities. I know just form experience, seeing, and hearing it all first hand that people just assume students with disabilites to be "dumb and/or slow". This bothers me ... a lot. I remember in middle school my soccer coach had a daughter who was disabled and whenever used derrogatory "r word" she would get really offended.
At first she didn't tell anyone about her daughter and her daughter's condition, not because she was embarrassed but because she kept quiet to hear people's true reactions about it and to see how kids handled situations like this. She waited until a situation arose, one practice when a teammate called someone the r word for doing something wrong and she sat us down and told us her story. She told us she had a daughter who was disabled and she gets offended when people say things like that. She explained to us that even though someone is diasbled it does not make them stupid, weak, or incapble just at a slight disadvantage. it was hard but defnitely worth it, also not an issue to be joked about because of how much it affects the person's life who has it but everyone in that person's life. We asked why she didn't tell us and she said well if I told you, you would of acted differently and handled it more sensitively, and we questioned her, like isnt that what you would want? She told us of course she wants people to be respectful and understadning towards peopel like her daughter but they should always be like that. My coach also explained ot us that even though we may use the r words and other negative simialr words as a joke it isnt funny, and should be used as a joke. People with disabilities already "feel out of the loop" and different, they have enough to worry about why be cruel and hurtful and make their problems even harder to deal with? It shouldnt take getting into an akward situation like the one that soccer practice or meeting somone to be accepting and understanding, we should always be kind to others. I guess this is what started it all, my first experience and after that I always thought this way. This is why I hope to have a successful project that not only opens people's hearts but their eyes to the situation and circumstances of people with disabilites.

So apparently I'm missing some posts, so I'll let you in on some things I'll be talking about with my project.
Here's how I'm going to structure it:
I'll start with my presentation of Animal Tracks, explaining what it is, it's mission statement, etc. Then, I'll go into more broader and general topics like money management, area, and staff.

Reflection Week 10: Popular Literature
REFLECTION WEEK 10!
This week I spent time looking at a modern part of best sellers, being turned into movies. I found some interesting things during my research. Many of the best sellers people know are discovered by people through the movie based on them.
In the research I did, I found that following a movie release of a best selling book book sales tended to go up. In certain series, including Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and even Twilight. The popularity has moved passed movies and books into many different forms of merchandise. In novel series movies that came out before the final book often boosted the final book sales as well.
While movies can help a best selling novel produce more book sales, it can also take a previously under sold novel and give their sales a major boost. Before the Twilight movies, the books sold well, however, following the movies sales of the books nearly doubled.
While this isn't strictly related to literature and creating best sellers, in the world we live in now it is a major part of it. Unlike before when books were the major form of entertainment, the world has evolved to which media plays a major if not one of the most important roles. I felt like not looking into it might leave something out of the project.
My plans for the next week is to get back to strictly literature, finalizing all my ideas for my best selling novel formula and speak more about my plans for my final project.

REFLECTION WEEK 9!
This week I spent time looking at a different side of my project; what made books that had characteristics on the list fail and what made books that didn't have anything in common with the list succeed.
To be honest this week didn't get me far in my project, but it was interesting. There were some similarities between books that failed, and some big differences in the books that "should have" succeeded and failed when compared to the ones that did succeed. Some of the information was interesting, and the bit that fits in with my project I plan to add in to my final presentation.
Putting this week behind me I am starting on a different part of modern literature that came up earlier in my project. Now a big thing is turning books into movies, so what effect does that have on making books a best seller? Or are all books best sellers before the movie deals?

REFLECTION WEEK 8!
This week I spent time comparing the list of best selling characteristics I developed to other novels to test it. I used both novels from series and ones that stood alone, as well as unpublished novels that are predicted to become best sellers.
When comparing the stand alone novels and the series novels to the list I found slight differences. Certain characteristics are constant in both, but there are differences. Novels in a series need certain characteristics to allow the story to continue over a collection of books, while stand alone novels need to complete the story in a single book.
I spent some time comparing unpublished novels (using summaries or previews) to the list to see what data I could collect. While I can't know for sure until the books are published and there is data on it, I found some interesting things that I will discuss in my project.
My plan for next week is to look at books that did have these characteristics and failed, or didn't have these characteristics and made it on the best sellers list. My plan with this is to look for anomalies

REFLECTION WEEK 7!
This week I stuck to my plan and put together what I believe is my final list of characteristics. These characteristics are a combination books found on young adult best sellers lists cited in earlier posts.(mostly from The Hunger Games and Harry Potter series).
The list I have put together contains all the similar characteristics found in the novels I reviewed. In addition to the list of characteristics that seem constant, there are other sets of characteristics that are popular among certain genres or time periods when novels were written. My plan is to use these lists to explain why novels become best sellers, and which ones to include to make any novel a best seller.
My plan for the upcoming week is to compare other best selling novels to the list to see if they hold up. With these new books I plan to include the new list that was published for the new year, and the list of books that are predicted to become best sellers. This will be a test to see how well my list of characteristics holds up.

REFLECTION WEEK 6!
This week I spent a good time organizing the rest of my project and figuring out what I wanted to accomplish in the coming weeks. Finding I was changing ideas often, I put together I final plan to stick through to finish the proect without getting off topic.
Once my plan was in place, I spent the remaining of my time finishing up the comparison between my two main book series that I started a few weeks ago. I reviewed the books and took notes on the similarities and the characteristics they share. I'm using these characteristics that are found in the two series (The Hunger Games an Harry Potter) for a basis as to what I am going to put in the "formula" to creating a best selling novel.
My plan for next week is to coninue putting together the final characteristics in what will make up the formula for writing a best selling novel.

Why are students learning styles important?
Research has shown that students can perform better on test if they change study habits to fit their own personal learning styles.
According to LearningRx:
"Although most people use a combination of the three learning styles, they usually have a clear preference for one. Knowing and understanding the types of learning styles is important for students of any age. It is advantageous for students to understand their type of learning style early on so that homework and learning may become easier and less stressful in the future. Although it may be tempting to stick with what works, it’s important to practice and train the other types of learning styles early on so that, as he grows, the child can utilize the other types just as effectively. "
So far, based on my own personal research and carrying out different tests, I have found a pattern amount the students that participated. In general, most of the students were able to recall the numbers visually seeing them. There were some cases in which a select group of students were able to do superb through hearing the information. Details to come in the next post:

Different Learning Styles
People are all different. They come from different homes, upbringings, ethnicities, cultures, etc. Everyone is unique, therefore everyone thinks and behaves different from each other. After conversing with my colleagues and scrutinizing different sources, I became well educated enough to decipher the primary types of learning styles: auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. A perplex amount of students learn best through a combination of the three types of learning styles, but we will only two of these types (auditory and visual).
Auditory Learners:
These type of students recall information best when the teacher verbally explains it than reading the information themselves.
Visual Learners:
These types of students recall information best when the see the information, rather than listening to the teacher. Sometimes these learners may have difficulty focusing on the teacher that lecturing, but do best when they can read the information themselves. Furthermore, a very few visual learners are able to take a picture, just like a camera in their minds and just be able to "review" and recall the picture ay anytime, when needed. These students have a photographic memory.

Week 8: Safety of Makeup
I went a whole week without wearing makeup! I have to say I was a lot more okay with it then I thought I would be. I thought I would be freaking out, but after about 2 or 3 days I really didn't notice. I realized it was just one less thing I had to do in the morning. After the week was over, I forgot that I could wear makeup again. I really didn't notice any difference in my skin or anything, during this week. I figure in my video, I'll go into detail about my week of no makeup.
Week 7: The Safety of Makeup
Okay, I definitely have decided not to create my own makeup. With the time I have left to complete the project, I just can't get it done. I think I'll make creating my own makeup a separate personal project. So far I have researched tons of myths and facts about cosmetics and safety and I have found a lot. I have decided to include a PowerPoint like video using screencast -o-matic in my video. But I still plan on using iMovie for the rest of the video.

Week 6: Safety of Makeup
I have 22 responses to my makeup poll.I'm not sure how I'm going to sort them out and include them in my final video.A lot of the responses are kind of silly. I decided not to include information about lotion and perfume in my final video. I think it would be better to focus on just makeup. The results of the poll will probably be included in the section of the video that talks about the safest makeup products on the market today.My big problem is deciding the order of my video. I think I have too much information and I need to limit it down.

Reflection 9
I am trying to figure out what to use for my next blog post will be. It will probably be about important dates to remember for the process. I will have to do a lot of searching to find these dates because the NCAA doesn't make them very public. I heard different dates from different recruiters so I will have to find them on the website. Wish me luck!
Reflection 8
There is not really much for me to write anymore in these reflections because it is now the time where I apply everything that I have learned and write my blog posts. This weeks post was about making the colleges want you. It was about how recruiting is not just about your on field play. On field play gets your recognized, grades and good conduct gets you scholarships. This was told to me by all of the coaches I spoke to about this project. Reflection nine will be coming soon.
